Danny Bobis’ family would like to invite you to his public memorial service this Sunday, August 7th at 5:30PM on the Laurelton Blvd. portion of the beach Long Beach, NY. The entire community is invited. Join us as we honor a life of purpose and courage.

FROM LIRR: If coming from Manhattan, New York City you can take the Long Island Railroad from NY Penn Station on West 34th Street. If coming from Brooklyn, New York City you can take the Long Island Railroad from Atlantic Avenue Station in Downtown Brooklyn.

When you arrive at Long Beach LIRR Station. Walk west (in direction of Bank of America kiosk and Starbucks coffee) toward National Boulevard. Walk about 3 blocks to Laurelton Boulevard then turn left toward the ocean. Walk about 7 blocks to the boardwalk (you should be able to see it on the horizon). See you on the beach/boardwalk. We regret to inform those of you who have not already heard. It is true, the body of Danny Bobis was found in the waters of Indonesia. At this time we ask that you keep Danny’s family in your thoughts and prayers. They will need your continued emotional, spiritual and financial support in this difficult time. I am truly sorry to be writing this. Last night Rachel, Bob, Lydia, and Brian received word that a body was found somewhere up the coast by fishermen. They immediately traveled together in hopes that it was a coincidence…It was not. They positively identified Danny. He is gone and now we must mourn. So please do not focus on what the media may release. In this terrible time of tragedy we must keep our energy on what Danny stood for and how we can be there for his family. We must come together and stay together….Danny you will never die in our hearts and we know your up in heaven ripping waves. Our friend Danny is currently missing off the coast of Sumantra, Indonesia after catching a 12 foot wave while surfing. Not only is Danny the drummer of Cipher, but he’s also an avid surfer, experienced black belt and a math teacher in the Long Beach school district.

We’re trying to aid in the raising of money to help his parents and his wife, Rachel, with their search efforts (and things like travel expenses…helicopter rentals, manpower for searches etc… things they need through this tough time.)

Come on down on Wednesday and show your support, keep positivity alive, keep Danny’s inspiration alive, and help us raise some funds for his family!

You’re welcome to bring your guitar, voice, bongos, whatever and get up on stage too!

FYI— the set up at Recovery Room is more acoustic. There’s no backline but there is a PA.

Hey folks,

For those of you who have watched the news or picked up a paper today, you may have seen the story about Daniel Bobis, the Long Island native who went missing yesterday while surfing in Indonesia.

I met Daniel a few years ago and we’ve worked together on a few projects here on Long Island, the most recent being a beach cleanup down in Long Beach last summer. Aside from being a fellow surfer, Daniel is a teacher, a husband, and a member of the Long Island music scene. When I heard the news of his disappearance, I felt obligated to help out in any way I can.

Daniel’s wife is still in Indonesia doing everything she can to organize search parties. Due to a lack of help from local authorities, friends and family have already maxed out credit cards trying to raise cash to fly in helicopters or get jet skis in the water to search for Daniel.

Here on Long Island, we always help each other out in times of need, and I’m very fortunate to have a lot of great, talented friends who are going to come down tomorrow and help raise money for Daniel’s rescue. I’ll be doing an acoustic set, and so will a lot of other great dudes.

There will be donations taken at the door, and we appreciate anything that you can give. This is the quickest I’ve ever thrown a show together, but we’ve got to be quick, and I would like to get the cash to Daniel’s wife as soon as possible.
